Overview

Players will utilize the farming mechanics to grow crops to eat, sell and use in crafting. The mechanics of farming consist of acquiring seeds, planting seeds, watering crops, waiting, and harvesting. Players will have to wait a certain amount of in-game days for crops to become harvestable and must be watered a certain amount of times during their grow time.

Mechanic Flow

Everything that is planted has a time value that denotes how long it must be planted before it can be harvested. This information will be stated in the seed/plant description. Plants will have a base grow time but each day that the plant is watered, it will reduce the growth time by one day. This value cannot be reduced to zero on the final day of its growth period. If a plant is not watered after a certain number of days, it will die and must be dug up and new seeds must be planted. This value will be denoted in the description.

Unique Information

Plant UI should inform the player that each day they water the plant, its growth time will be reduced by 1 day. It should also inform the player whether or not they have watered the plant that day. Water status should also be visible from the soil colour.

Seasonal Information

Seeds will inform players about what seasons they can be planted in, and whether or not it takes them longer to grow in other seasons.

Harvest Status

When a plant is ready to be harvested, it will show an icon above the plot to inform the player that it can be harvested.

Farming Tools

Players have access to the Hoe which allows them to prep the soil for plants, and they can purchase upgrades to their planting equipment, such as garden boxes. These are one-time purchases that the player makes and can use them as often as they need. Prices should fit the convenience of use and the level of progression through the game.
